A Beginner’s Guide to Skiing in the US (Without Going Broke)

Ski Trip Adventure
Skiing in places like Aspen or Vail can cost a fortune, but it doesn’t have to. I started skiing in my 20s and quickly learned that the big resort names come with big price tags. Look for smaller, independent mountains. In Colorado, places like Loveland or Arapahoe Basin offer cheaper lift tickets and a more laid-back vibe. Also, rent gear off the mountain. The shops in town are usually cheaper than the slope-side rental spots. And don’t buy a $150 lift ticket on a powder day if you’re a beginner—you’ll be on the bunny slope anyway. Stick to the smaller hills to learn the ropes.
