Black Widow 2021 Review
Black Widow finally gave Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) her solo film—a prequel set between Civil War and Infinity War. Director Cate Shortland delivers a spy thriller that explores Natasha's past in the Red Room. The film introduces Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), who steals every scene with her humor and depth. The sibling dynamic between Natasha and Yelena is the film's emotional core. David Harbour's Alexei (Red Guardian) and Rachel Weisz's Melina add to the dysfunctional family dynamic. The villain, Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), is serviceable but underdeveloped. The action sequences, particularly the Budapest chase and the final Red Room battle, are excellent. The film gives Natasha closure, and the post-credits scene shows Yelena visiting Natasha's grave, setting up her role in Thunderbolts. Black Widow is a fitting tribute to a beloved character, even if it arrived after her death. Black Widow is available on Disney+ Hotstar. For free viewing, many mobile plans include Disney+. Digital rentals are available on YouTube Movies and Apple TV. The film had a hybrid release during the pandemic, so it's also available for purchase on digital platforms.
