Construction Management: Building America
I started as a laborer on a construction site right out of high school. I worked my way up, learned the ropes, and went back to school for construction management. Now, I run projects worth millions of dollars. The construction industry is booming, and there’s a desperate need for skilled project managers. We’re building infrastructure, housing, and commercial spaces. It’s not just about hammers and nails anymore. It’s about logistics, budgeting, scheduling, and safety. If you’re a natural leader who likes seeing tangible results—like a building going up where there was nothing before—this is a great field. The pay is excellent, and the job security is strong because we’re always going to need buildings and roads. You don’t necessarily need a four-year degree; experience and certifications can go a long way. It’s a fast-paced environment, but walking through a completed project you managed is a feeling of pride that’s hard to beat.
