Dubai Green Business Guide
The irony of one of the world's largest oil and gas exporters becoming a leader in clean energy is not lost on observers, but the UAE's commitment to its energy transition is measurable and backed by serious capital. The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, currently one of the world's largest single-site solar projects, will have a capacity of 5,000 megawatts when complete. Dubai has committed to having 75 percent of its electricity from clean energy by 2050. The UAE hosted COP28 in 2023, cementing its intention to shape rather than resist the energy transition narrative. For businesses, this agenda creates genuine commercial opportunity. Demand for solar installation, energy management systems, sustainability consulting, green building certification, and environmental services is growing rapidly. The UAE Green Building Mandate requires all new buildings to meet sustainability standards. ESG reporting requirements for listed companies are creating demand for sustainability consulting services. The Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence facilitates carbon trading and offset projects. Start-ups and established companies in cleantech are finding a willing partner in the UAE government, which has the capital and the political will to fund energy transition projects at scale. Masdar, the Abu Dhabi clean energy company, invests globally and has a strong presence in Dubai's green technology ecosystem.
