Finding Hidden Waterfalls in the Pacific Northwest
The Pacific Northwest is a waterfall lover’s paradise. But the famous ones, like Multnomah Falls in Oregon, are packed. I’ve learned that the best ones require a short hike. In Washington, check out the trails near the Columbia River Gorge—there are dozens of lesser-known falls. In Oregon, Silver Falls State Park has a “Trail of Ten Falls” where you can actually walk behind some of them. The key is to go after a good rain (which is often) to see them at full flow. Pack a rain jacket and good boots, because the trails are muddy. The reward is a spot that feels like your own private paradise.
