Kabir Singh (2019): Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Controversial Love Story

Kabir Singh Movie Review
Kabir Singh is a film that ignited fierce debate. Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Hindi remake of his own Telugu film Arjun Reddy is an unflinching portrait of a self-destructive lover. Shahid Kapoor delivers a career-best performance as the titular character—a brilliant surgeon with anger issues whose life spirals after his girlfriend Preeti (Kiara Advani) is forced to marry someone else. The film is deliberately uncomfortable. Kabir is not a hero to be emulated; he's a flawed, toxic man whose journey is both repulsive and compelling. The film's defenders argue that it's a character study, not an endorsement. Critics point to its glorification of toxic masculinity, stalking, and violence. Regardless of your stance, Kabir Singh is impossible to ignore. The music by Vishal Bhardwaj and Mithoon is excellent—"Bekhayali" and "Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage" became massive hits. The raw intensity of the performances, particularly Shahid's, is undeniable. The film was a massive commercial success. Kabir Singh is streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.
