Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017): A Fresh Take on Peter Parker
Spider-Man: Homecoming gave us the definitive live-action Peter Parker. Jon Watts directed this coming-of-age story that captures what makes Spider-Man special—he's a kid trying to balance high school with being a superhero. Tom Holland is perfect, bringing youthful energy, vulnerability, and heart. The film wisely avoids rehashing the origin story, instead focusing on Peter's desire to prove himself to Tony Stark. Michael Keaton's Vulture is one of the MCU's best villains—relatable, menacing, and connected to Peter in surprising ways. The film's high school setting is authentic, and the supporting cast (Jacob Batalon's Ned, Zendaya's MJ) is excellent. The action is grounded, and the final confrontation is a tense, low-stakes battle that prioritizes character. The film also handled Tony Stark's mentorship beautifully. Spider-Man: Homecoming is a film about growing up and learning that being a hero isn't about the suit. Spider-Man: Homecoming is available on Disney+ Hotstar. For free viewing, many mobile plans include Disney+. Digital rentals are available on YouTube Movies and Apple TV. The film is also broadcast on television channels.
