You've seen those LinkedIn posts written by ChatGPT. You know the ones—"In today's rapidly evolving landscape" followed by bullet points that say nothing.
Painful, right?
But here's the secret: that's not ChatGPT's fault. It's yours. (Sorry, but true.)
The default tone is bland because safe is safe. You have to yank personality out of it.
Start with the forbidden word: "slang." Tell it "use casual English, contractions, and even a little slang." That alone removes 80% of the stiffness.
Next, add a vocal tic. Say "write like you're explaining this to a friend at a bar" or "pretend you're a grumpy old mechanic who's seen everything." The model has absorbed millions of human conversations. Let them out.
Also, break its rhythm. AI loves "first, second, finally." Tell it "don't use transition words. Just say it." Watch the magic happen.
My personal favorite: after it generates a response, type "now make it sound like a tired parent on a Sunday morning." You'll laugh at how well it works.
Remember: you're not programming. You're directing an actor. Give it a role, a mood, and permission to be imperfect. That's where the real human voice lives.
