Solo Travel in the USA: Why It’s Safer and Easier Than You Think

I was terrified the first time I traveled solo in the US. I thought I’d be lonely or unsafe. The truth is, Americans are incredibly chatty. If you sit at a bar counter (or a diner counter), someone will talk to you. Solo travel gives you a freedom that group travel doesn’t. You can change your mind on a whim. I once intended to go to Portland, but stopped in Bend, Oregon because the mountains looked nice. I stayed three days. For safety, just use common sense: stay in well-lit areas, share your location with a friend, and trust your gut. If a gas station gives you bad vibes, just drive to the next one. You’ll find that solitude on the road is addictive.
