The Downvote: Handling Criticism on Stack Overflow Like a Pro

Handling Online Criticism
Getting your first downvote on Stack Overflow stings. It feels personal, like someone said your baby is ugly. My first one was on a question I’d spent hours crafting. I was angry. But after cooling off, I read the comments. Someone pointed out my question was a duplicate and linked to a better one. They were right. I learned more from that downvote than from the upvotes I got for simple answers. The key is to not take it personally. The platform is about the information, not you. If a downvote comes with a helpful comment, use it to improve. If it’s just a drive-by downvote with no context, shrug it off. It’s just the internet.
