Bilateral Relations
The Pakistan Paradox: Trade, Terror, and Cricket Diplomacy
If there’s one relationship in Indian geopolitics that defies logic, it’s this one. On one hand, you have the border firing and the constant rhetoric about cross-border terrorism. On the other hand, you have the people—on both sides—who just want to see their families or watch a cricket match without the political baggage. I remember reading about the Kartarpur Corridor when it opened. It was a rare moment of hope. But then, a week later, tensions would flare up again. It’s exhausting. The reality is, Pakistan is a variable India cannot ignore. The current policy seems to be ‘no engagement until terror stops.’ But is that sustainable? With the situation in Afghanistan evolving and China investing heavily in Pakistan (CPEC), India can’t afford to just put a wall up. It’s a frozen conflict, and in geopolitics, frozen things tend to melt at the worst possible moment.
