Visiting the Grand Canyon: South Rim vs. North Rim
When I told friends I was going to the Grand Canyon, everyone assumed I meant the South Rim. It’s the classic. It has the big lodges, the viewpoints, and the crowds. But on my second trip, I went to the North Rim. It’s a totally different beast. The North Rim is higher up, forested, and much quieter. It closes in winter, but in summer, it feels like a hidden secret. If it’s your first time and you want the iconic photo, go South. If you want solitude and a more rugged feel, brave the drive to the North. Honestly, you can’t go wrong. Just don’t try to do both in one day—it’s a five-hour drive around the canyon.
