In 2024, Apple released Vision Pro. A mixed reality headset. It costs $3,500. It has more computing power than a MacBook Pro. It tracks your eyes and hands. No controllers needed.
Reviews were mixed. The technology is incredible. Pass-through video is almost real. Gestures feel like magic. But it is heavy. The battery lasts two hours. And you look ridiculous wearing it.
More importantly, nobody knows what to do with it. Apple showed productivity apps. Movies. FaceTime with avatars. But nothing compelling enough to spend $3,500. Developers are building apps. Slowly. Most are waiting to see if anyone buys the thing.
For beginners, this is classic Apple. They release expensive products first. Let early adopters pay for development. Then release cheaper versions later. The iPhone started at $599 with no App Store. Look at it now. Vision Pro might follow the same path. Or it might flop. Nobody knows yet.
